It has been a truly busy May! I had the ABSOLUTE pleasure of playing in my hometown this month, which is something I NEVER get to do. Even more special? I was joined by two of my best friends!
A new coffee shop opened up in Westfield called The Press Room which is attached to the Westfield Evening News building. It is one of the only places in Westfield where one can enjoy an ORGANIC cup of coffee and fritters the size of your face. It is a small space near the house I grew up in.
I decided to organize an "in the round" style show with two of my most talented and dearest friends. Of course I asked my Madeline Laporte to join me! The second lady? None other than the beautiful, powerhouse Kelsey Veillette, of the band named after our sweet town Whip City.
We played completely unplugged as we went down the line and played one song after the other. Some of the highlights of the show were Kelsey's beautiful original tune "Lust Is No Sin," and Maddie's powerful version of "St Louis Blues." We all played together on Kelsey's original tune "To Me" which is a sexy, samba of sorts. You can hear it here on Kelsey's solo album she released a few years back. I also had the pleasure of singing of Madeline's original tune, "Pauline" which will be on Street Change's third album due to be released sometime after they get the second one out! We closed the show with the three of us taking verses and scat sections of "Why Don't You Do Right?" a la Jessica Rabbit. We rehearsed it about an hour before the show in my Mama's backyard garden paradise, "The Peace Pagoda," which you can check out in the picture below!
It a was such a great show with a wonderful turnout and I am so happy to report that I will be organizing a all female, "in the round" style shows at the Press Room annually! The next one will take place on Wednesday, July 1st at 5pm, with Joslyn Thomas and Shanta Paloma. Click here for more info! If YOU would like to be a part of the Ladies In The Round series, send me an email with a link to your music!
I am also very stoked to announce that the "Sweet Moon" 7" will be available for pre-order on June 16! There will be a mystery free gift with every pre-order. I don't know what it will be yet, but I promise it will be something dope. Here is a little preview!
I'm looking forward to a ridiculously busy summer! I'll be at the Rendezvous with my full band on June 12, enjoying a Woman Songwriter Collective reunion on July 25 for Upper Valley music festival and playing a BUNCH shows with so many great musicians! YAY SUMMAH. <3
